Why Starting Strength?

No crowds. No guesswork. Just expert coaching and measurable results.

Strength training made simple, effective, and welcoming. Every session pairs you with a coach who refines your form, tracks your progress, and helps you get stronger at a pace that fits your goals and your life.

Simple Science.
Three Lifts.
Everything You Need.

We coach every rep and add weight only when form is solid.
Stress. Recover. Repeat.

Squat

The king of all the lifts and the primary training stimulus. Performed each time you train, for at least the first several months.

Bench or Press

The two upper body-dominant exercises alternate each time you train to include all of the muscles that enable you to push things away from you, or lift things overhead.

Pull

The deadlift is the only pulling exercise for the first several weeks of training. It then alternates with the chin-up and/or the power clean, depending on your goals and limitations.

Nothing More,
Nothing Less

No Gimmicks, No Fads, No Sales Desk.
Just Simple Strength.

A Platform Reserved for You

No more waiting for equipment. Your personal training appointment includes a platform reservation with all of the equipment you need to perform the exercises that are prescribed for you.

Digital Logbook App

Unequivocal, numerical progress - tracked in your own digital logbook. Available exclusively to Starting Strength Gyms Members.

No Sales Desk

The gym is for training, not sales. We dislike the pushy-gym-sales-guy as much as you do.

Barbells

There is no better tool for the job of getting stronger. Infinitely scalable. The elderly and de-trained may start with a broomstick. Some of our strongest trainees lift over 600lbs.

FAQs

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Suspendisse varius enim in eros elementum tristique.

I've never exercised regularly before. Will I fit in here?

Absolutely! Most of our Columbus area members started exactly where you are. We specialize in helping complete beginners build strength safely and gradually. Our coaches understand that everyone starts somewhere, and we create a welcoming environment where you'll never feel judged or out of place.

I'm worried about getting injured. Is strength training safe?

When done properly with qualified instruction, strength training is one of the safest forms of exercise and actually helps prevent injuries. Our certified coaches teach you proper form from day one and progress you gradually. Strong muscles, bones, and joints are your best protection against everyday injuries and falls.

What should I expect during my free trial?

Your complimentary session includes a friendly conversation about your goals, a basic movement assessment, and gentle introduction to fundamental exercises. You'll see how we make strength training approachable and understand why our members feel more confident and capable in their daily lives.

I have aches and pains. Can strength training help?

Many of our members joined us with chronic back pain, joint stiffness, or other discomforts. While we're not medical professionals, we often see these issues improve as people get stronger. We work with your healthcare providers and can modify exercises to work around most limitations.

How long before I feel stronger and more capable?

Most new members notice improvements in how they feel within 2-3 weeks. You might find stairs feel easier, your posture improves, or you have more energy. Physical strength builds gradually, but many people are amazed at how quickly daily activities become more manageable.
